I love spiced tea -- I first learned how to make it when I was in a very small writing class taught by Liz Carpenter at the University of Texas. She was once press secretary to First Lady Lady Bird Johnson, and upon retirement, taught a very small class. We used to meet in a small room in the Undergraduate Library. I think about her every time I get a whiff of the tea. You make it with instant tea (preferably lemon flavored), Tang and cinnamon and nutmeg. I usually make a big batch and give some away as Christmas gifts to neighbors.
My second photo here is in response to a challenge here http://liljatr.blogspot.com/ to post the ninth photo of the ninth folder in My Pictures folder. I only have one folder in there, for 2009, and only one folder inside, January, but here's the ninth picture inside the ninth January folder:
We call that Russian Tea up here in the North. I'd loke a cup right now, I'm cold!
ReplyDeleteWe call it Russian Tea too. I haven't had it in years -- oh, I want some now.
ReplyDeleteit's so funny to see your photo of spiced tea - I was totally craving it yesterday. I haven't even had it in a few years! yum!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE tea! Totally crazy over it. Yours look delicious!
ReplyDeleteI have never had spiced tea - since I don't generally like tea, I wonder if I would like it spicy LOL
ReplyDeleteI see you already know I tagged you - but I'm supposed to tell you anyways :) Love that photo of Rachel!!
great shot!
ReplyDeleteI love this photo, I am not a tea drinker myself but there is someting about this photo that just makes me feel all warm and cozy.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like an interesting mix. Can you tell us the exact proportions I'd like to try it!
ReplyDeleteI have not made this tea in years but maybe I should. Tim drinks so much tea. He got hooked in China and brews loose leaf all of the time. It gets to be a tad bit spendy especially when he cooses Olong teas that at $25 for 2oz. You do get quite a bit though since it is so light weight.
ReplyDeleteSarah -- there aren't really exact proportions -- I use a jar of instant tea, a jar of Tang, throw in some spices. Mix it up, taste (a couple of teaspoonsful to a mug of boiling water) and adjust.
