Bridge Over the Brazos

I think the Waco Suspension Bridge is very cool. The first time we explored it, a group of horseback riders came across, the hooves of the horses clomping over the wooden deck. If you don't live in Texas, you may think this is an everyday occurance, but I assure you it is not! I like to imagine the cowboys driving cattle over the bridge on their way to the stockyards in Fort Worth. I didn't take a photo of it, there there were two huge bronze statues covered with a tarp and shrink wrap, waiting for the unveiling. The statues are of a horse and rider and a longhorn steer. I read in the paper that they are the first of an entire herd of longhorns that will be stationed on the bank of the river by the bridge. Waco is trying very hard to promote tourism, and they think this will become an attraction to lure people off of Interstate 35 between Dallas and Austin.

  3. That IS a cool bridge! What an interesting story on the sign. I love it when folks post about where they live, being a lifelong armchair traveler, and my youngest is the same way!
