Shrove Tuesday

Tuesday before Ash Wednesday is called Shrove Tuesday in the Episcopal Church, and it's traditional to get together and eat pancakes before the season of Lent begins. At my church, the Sunday School kids rang bells and then took their Alleluia banner out into the courtyard, symbolizing that during the season of Lent, no Alleluias would be sung. After the banner was buried, we gathered around the fire to burn last year's Palm Sunday crosses and palm fronds. The ashes will be gathered up and used in tomorrow's Ash Wednesday service.

  1. I had a Year Seven computer class yesterday and they had little containers of ashes with them. They were responsible for disturbing the ashes to the younger grades.
