Mammogram

It's not cute or funny, but it's important to record: I got my yearly mammogram today. The blue checked cloth is draped on the machine in an effort to warm the surface.

I've heard many women complain about the discomfort of getting a mammogram -- personally, I've never found it to be that bad.

I have always been able to state that no one in my immediate family has a history of breast cancer, but in the past year or two, my mother's sister had breast cancer. She lives in England and is a very private person, so she wouldn't divulge any of the details. But it's a reminder to me, and to my mother and my sister, that mammograms are more important than ever.

  1. A great reminder. I've never had one, not having insurance since I came of that age, but I need to find a way to get one!

  3. How did you get to take a photo in there? Where I go, everything is done quickly so I wouldn't have time to take a photo. Thanks for the reminder, though. My last one was January 2008 so I'm due for my next one. They've never bothered me, either.

  4. Good reminder JoAnn, but I'm wondering why you didn't try to do a self portrait...

  5. I agree, they aren't a big deal. I get one done every year now. For a long time it was every 6 months.

And yes, I too now have a family history, my cousin, younger then me, has breast cancer. Like my doctor told me "the history can start anywhere, just because it's not there now is no reason to dimiss the importance of testing". So true!

  7. I'm due for this too. There's no history of breast cancer in my family, but still, you never know. I've never found them to be all that uncomfortable either. Not pleasant, but not painful.

  8. Well I agree that they are tolerable but pinchy!! I do get them yearly and so far so good! Did your tech think you were a lunatic for taking a picture?

  9. Ummm, it is those of us who are less endowed for whom they are very uncomfortable . . . pinching and squeezing something that's barely there into an area 3 times their size. lol Good for you. I am due too.
