The Mating Game

It was a very romantic Valentine's date. We had reservations for The Mating Game at our local zoo. Dinner was served with champagne and candlelight in the aquarium. One entire wall of fish, the other with smaller exhibits. Round tables were set with candles, flowers, chocolates, champagne....
Then we went to see a "backstage" tour of the zoo. We saw three giraffes and Paul got to feed them. Next, the rhinos, up close and personal.
Next we saw Sam Jack, the male lion. We were ushered into a small hallway next to the cages where the male and two female bed down for the night. Sam Jack was not happy to have his sleep interrupted and promptly turned his back and peed on the floor. Take that! The zoo keepers advised us to stay against the wall but they seemed comfortable standing close to the cage. I snapped this photo by peering through the bars. Sam Jack was not amused.
The tigers actually seemed quite docile (an illusion, I'm sure.) The zoo keeper told us about driving with the tiger non-stop from the Washington zoo to Waco in the zoo van, she slept like a kitty the whole way.

It was a very fun and nice way to spend Valentine's Day.
