A surprise in the mail today: three DVDs with old family movies. And I mean old -- the first was from 1957. Grainy and scratchy, but it reminds me of the afternoons we'd sit in the living room, darken the room, and Dad would get out the 8mm projector to show old family movies. Years of Christmases, birthday parties, and vacations. The people in the films waved excitedly. My parents looked so different -- there was my mother, in her wide cotton skirts and smoking! (She quit soon after and I've never seen her smoke.) My dad as the dashing young dad, his cigarette package rolled up in his t-shirt and his hair combed back with Brill-Creme. And then there's us, my three brothers and me, and much later, another sister.
This project is a labor of love my dad has been working on for years, and I'm so happy to finally have it, even if it's scratchy and grainy.
Wow that is really special!
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful! I wish my parents had been more into capturing memories when I was young.
ReplyDeleteWow what a TREASURE!!! I would love to have something like that. Hopefully our children will feel the same about our scrapbooks.
ReplyDeleteThat is sooo amazing! We don't have any old movies at all, I think I'm the first to have any kind of video camera!
