Today was a fun day at work -- we went flying! My company sells engines for turboprop airplanes, and there are several pilots employed there. Today, the pilot needed to fly to a town about 50 miles away to pick up another airplane that had been in the shop. I had asked if there was an opportunity, could I go along for a ride, and so he invited me along today.

On the flight to Georgetown, we flew in this Skyhawk. The cabin is smaller than the inside of my Ford Focus. Edwin was the pilot and Chris the co-pilot. Edwin is the marketing and sales director, the person I work most closely with. He just got his pilot's license a couple of weeks ago.

We flew over the airport and south to Georgetown, over lakes and ponds and farmland. The Skyhawk was small and the sky was cloudy, but it wasn't too bumpy. I really enjoyed looking out the window at the farms and homes below. The Skyhawk is not that powerful, so the flight took us about 40 minutes. Chris was giving Edwin pointers, although I was a little nervous when Edwin asked "what is this switch for, is it the autopilot?" and Chris said, "I don't know. Let's try it."

When we got to the airport at Georgetown, Edwin returned with the Skyhawk and Chris and I took the Cheyenne back to Waco. It was interesting to sit in the cockpit and see Chris at the controls. He has been a pilot for about 25 years. It was a much shorter flight, only about 10 minutes back.
Wow, how cool! I would've been nervous about that little exchange, too!! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, this looks like so much fun! I would love to have a day at work à la JoAnn! You are one lucky girl! "Autopilote? - don't know, let's try" I would have been freaking out about that one, LOL.
ReplyDeleteWow what fun! I would love to have a day at work like that!
ReplyDeleteNow that's a cool day at work!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm very jealous! I used to go flying all the time with my stepdad when I was a kid. Loved it. Don't ge to go very often anymore. So glad you got to go on an adventure today!

ReplyDeletehow fun! I got to fly in small plane when I was in Alaska.. it was so much fun! I'd love to do it again. What a neat day at work!
ReplyDeletesounds like such a fun day! I love to fly. Although I've only been in a tiny two seater once, many moons ago, I remember it well and would jump at the chance to go up again. I would say the one 'dream' I have if money was not an option would be to learn to fly.
